AV Online and How to Start

People new to AV usually get stuck on the same two things: the vocabulary means nothing, and there is no obvious place to start. This page gives a glossary first, then three search paths that actually work, then the shape of the Japanese library here.

Six terms worth knowing

Code: the unique release number, studio prefix plus serial (ABC-123). The most precise way to find a specific film.

Exclusive (tandai): a performer signed to one label, with releases concentrated there, often a dedicated code series, high volume and consistent style.

Project-based (kikaku): a performer who works per project across labels. Appears under several studios, broader range, codes scattered.

Amateur (shirouto): non-contract performer, usually unnamed or aliased, no official code, issued under internal studio numbering.

Co-star (kyoen): two or more performers in one scene. Most titles here credit a single lead, so co-star records are sparse.

Leak (ryushutsu): an unedited master of a censored release that escaped. No mosaic, but the release data may not match.

Three search paths, pick by what you remember

Remember the code: just search it. This is the only exact match, and the dash is optional.

Remember the face but not the name: the model directory. about 3,000 performers sorted by scene count, each page showing debut year, active years and signature genres — two glances confirms whether it is the right person.

Remember only the scenario: tags. Creampie, MILF, big tits, tights, NTR, domination and student themes all have their own paginated pages. Obscure tags have fewer pages and end sooner.

Shape of the Japanese library

Largest block is Chinese-subtitled at 8,880, followed by censored HD at 6,840, uncensored leaks at 6,516, amateur at 4,493 and One-Pondo at 2,574.

If you are starting out, go through censored HD — proper labels, complete codes, stable quality, lowest risk of a bad rip. Move to leaks and amateur once you know what you like; those are wilder but far more variable in quality.

There is no "recommended for you" here. The source API exposes no behavioural data, so any such feature would be guesswork. Discovery is code, performer, tag, plus the daily-resorted new release ranking.

Category counts are a snapshot and shift as new scenes are indexed.

Common questions

What does AV mean?

Adult Video — in this context, Japanese studio releases distributed under a label and a code.

Exclusive versus project-based performers?

Exclusive performers sign to one label with concentrated releases and a dedicated code series. Project-based performers work across labels with scattered codes and wider stylistic range.

Where should a beginner start?

Censored HD: proper labels, complete codes and stable quality. Move to leaks and amateur later.

Why is there no recommendation engine?

The source API provides no user behaviour data, so collaborative filtering is impossible. Only code, performer and tag search are kept, plus the daily new-release ranking.
